Frequently asked questions about wedding videos

Q. What is High Definition and do you make high definition DVDs?

A. Virtually all wedding videos are currently produced in standard definition. However, tomorrows TV standard will be High Definition which has much more clarity, sharpness and color depth. It really is amazing.

Most new TV sets being sold today are 'Hi Definition Ready' and these will be able to receive high definition broadcasts when they start. However, to play High Definition DVDs, you need a 'High Definition DVD' player. These are available, but still relatively expensive. The price of these will fall in the near future and there will be many more program and films available in High Definition. within the next year or two. High definition DVDs will replace standard def, in the same way that DVDs replaced VHS tapes.

As leaders in wedding videography, we have been updating both our cameras and editing suite to take advantage of this new technology. We now film and edit in Hi-Definition, but still deliver the finished production in Standard Definition. However, this means that your wedding video is 'future-proofed' as we will be able to produce a High Definition version of your wedding video when you update your TV and DVD player.

We can produce Hi-Definition DVDs as either Blu-Ray or HD, but this is an optional extra. You will need a DVD player capable of playing writable Hi-Def DVDs in order to watch these discs

Q. We have another quote that is half your price - why are you more expensive?

A. If you have received any prices for wedding videos that seem too good to be true - they probably are!! Although it may seem simple to film a wedding, there is a lot more to it than simply pointing a camcorder at people. There are many ways to cut costs; cheaper equipment, no insurance or legally required licence's, using less skilled camera operators and editors and spending less time on post production editing. Obviously any corner cutting simply to save costs will impact on the quality of the finished video, which is why some couples end up disappointed with their wedding videos.

We do not cut corners or costs and what you are paying for on the day are the services of a highly skilled, professional film-maker and several thousand pounds worth of filming and editing equipment. From filming to the finished DVD will probably involve at least 35 hours work including editing.

We believe that our prices represent very good value, especially compared with other expenses - for example the dress, photographer, cake, cars and flowers.

Q. What length will my wedding video be?

A. In short as long as you want it to be, although there will be an additional charge if it extends over more than one DVD. In practice we would tend to aim for a finished production between 60 - 90 minutes. This enables us to produce a DVD that is vibrant, well-paced and entertaining, that captures all of the day's events.

The main factors affecting length of wedding videos are the type of ceremony, with church ceremonies being longer than civil ceremonies and of course the length of the speeches. These can vary from 10 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes!
